If you came here hoping to play OpenTag VR on Linux, we are truly sorry. This page is not here to joke or make light of the situation. It exists because the truth is difficult to accept. Linux currently cannot run OpenTag VR, and the reasons are deeper than hardware or performance. It is a limitation built into the graphics pipeline and runtime environment. This is not something you caused, and it is not something you can fix.
While Linux is a powerful platform, OpenTag VR relies on specific Windows-only runtime hooks and proprietary driver optimizations that do not currently have a stable 1:1 implementation for the Linux kernel or X11/Wayland display servers.
Even with tools like Proton and Wine, the low-level compositor access required for OpenTag VR's latency and tracking prediction is not yet native. Legacy VR builds on Linux cannot communicate with the modern OpenTag VR engine. Until the runtime environment matures, the game will remain incompatible with Linux distributions.
The only reliable way is to use a Windows PC with a supported VR headset. We know that may not be possible for everyone, and we are truly sorry. We wish we could bring OpenTag VR to every platform, but we cannot fight the technical limitations currently in place for Linux VR runtimes.
If you are trying to verify if your specific distro has a viable path for VR, we can help confirm if a workaround exists.
Tell us the following:
What headset you are using.
Which Linux distribution you are running.
Your current kernel and graphics driver version.
